Introduction

The Alberta iGaming Corporation (“AiGC”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Statement outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you interact with our website located at abigaming.ca (the “Website”), including without limitation, your application for a commercial agreement or otherwise contacting our team. All personal information is managed strictly in accordance with Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act (“POPA”) and other applicable access and privacy legislation.

 

Collection of Personal Information

 

We only collect the personal information that is authorized by law and directly necessary for our operational requirements and mandate as a Crown corporation, in accordance with sections 4(a) and 4(c) of POPA. This may include:

 

  • Contact Information: Such as your name, email address, phone number, and mailing address when you submit inquiries, subscribe to updates, or initiate an application.
  • Business Information: Details related to your organization if you are applying for a commercial operator agreement.
  • Technical Data: Standard digital information such as IP addresses, browser types, and operating systems collected automatically when you browse our Website.

The AiGC may collect additional information as a result of interacting or engaging with the AiGC. The AiGC will notify you if this occurs.

 

How We Use Your Information

 

The information we collect is used strictly for the purpose for which it was provided, including to:

 

  • Administer our operating programs, activities, and services.
  • Respond directly to your questions, media inquiries, or requests for information. 
  • Process and evaluate applications for commercial agreements, and to enforce such agreements. 
  • Communicate vital updates regarding Alberta’s regulated iGaming market. 
  • Improve the user experience and technical performance of our Website. 

Data Retention

We have record retention processes designed to retain personal information for no longer than necessary for the purposes set out herein, or as otherwise required to meet legal or business requirements.

In order to maintain comprehensive records of commercial agreements, regulatory compliance, and market oversight, AiGC retains submitted application data, business profiles, and official inquiries indefinitely, or as otherwise dictated by official provincial record retention schedules or applicable law.

 

Sharing of Personal Information

 

AiGC does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We will only share your information as set out below, or with your consent:

 

  • With the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) as required to facilitate the dual regulatory and commercial application process.
  • With authorized third-party service providers who assist in operating our Website and business, subject to strict confidentiality agreements.
  • We and our service providers may access, store and otherwise process personal information outside of Canada, including in the US or other foreign jurisdictions, where we or our service providers are located.
  • Where required or permitted to do so by applicable law or legal process (e.g., in response to a search warrant or other legally valid inquiry or order; to investigate a breach or contravention of law; to detect, suppress or prevent fraud; to exercise or defend legal claims; or to investigate or prevent actual or suspected loss or harm to persons or property), which may include disclosure to US and foreign courts, law enforcement, or governmental authorities).
  • In connection with a potential or completed business transaction involving all or part of AiGC (e.g., merger, acquisition, sale, etc.), or as part of a corporate reorganization or other change in corporate control.
  • When legally required or permitted to do so under POPA, the Access to Information Act (ATIA), or other applicable Canadian laws.

Data Security and Breach Notification

We have implemented robust, industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards – as part of our comprehensive Privacy Management Program – designed to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. That said, we advise that no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure and cannot guarantee absolute data security.

In accordance with POPA, AiGC will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta in the event of a privacy breach that creates a real risk of significant harm.

Your Rights

Under POPA and ATIA, you have the right to request access to the personal information AiGC holds about you, to request corrections if you believe there is an error or omission, and to withdraw consent to certain uses or disclosures of your personal information. You may make such a request or withdraw consent by emailing or writing to us using the contact information set out below. We may request certain personal information for the purpose of verifying your identity when you seek access to your personal information.
